ATRC trains members of the Municipal Assembly of Shtrpce

In the framework of partnership that the ATRC with German Organisation: Christian Schwarz - Scjiling Project - CSSP, this month in Struga in Macedonia is a three-day training organized for members of the Municipal Assembly of Shtrpce, concentrated in local government and relation between the municipality and citizens.

ATRC trainers of the past three days, the Municipal Assembly members explained the basic documents Shtrpce Municipal functions, such as the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, which the laws regarding direct or indirect with the municipalities, municipal and other documents which are mandatory for municipalities, ways of cooperation municipality  with citizen, relations minister-municipality, municipal responsibilities (own, delegated and enhanced, etc).

300 children certified as Environmental Ambassadors

Prishtina, April 1, 2010 - Under the applause of the small hands of children from all municipalities of Kosovo in the Red Room of the Faculty of Philology at a ceremony organized by "ATRC" in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Pristina, recieved certification  300 Ambassadors of the Environment Toddlers.

Organization "ATRC" has certified as "Ambassador of the Environment" 300 students in fifth grade, who are directly engaged in environmental protection in Kosovo.

Certification became the motto "Children in environmental protection.

The ceremony was attended by Henry Scott foreign affairs official from the Department of State, who in the words of the case said: "Now I have great pleasure to be part of this project and come here to see the participants of this program, or children who are the most beautiful and most important of this society. "

While following the program got the word the representative of the Ministry of Environment, Malsiu Muhammad, who said that the real contribution will come from citizens.

"We as a ministry we tried to follow them and how important is the environment and preserve the environment should be." He indicated that projects such as this are conducted with elementary school students are very appropriate, through the generation which comes growing influence of the parents and to all other citizens to have a better environment.

Last year the U.S. Embassy and State Department have provided a fund of 77 thousand dollar organization "ATRC" to implement this project. (Kosovo Info)

IMPLEMENTATION OF “MULTILEVEL SOCIAL CONFLICT RESOLUTION” PROJECT HAS STARTED

From January 2010, Advocacy Training and Resource Center - ATRC has started the implementation of the “Multilevel Social Conflict Revolution” project, financed by The Olof Palme International Center. The project will be implemented in 6 municipalities of the Peja Region: Peja, Gjakova, Deçan, Junik, Istog and Klina.

“Multilevel Social Conflict Resolution” project seeks to assist Local Government and civil society to foster and strengthen their relationships in order to foresee and respond to their communities needs better through enriching their relationships and growth practice with conflict resolution tools and techniques.


Within the framework of this project different activities will be organized, including trainings, workshops and press conferences, in which will participate Officials from the Municipal Assembly and representatives of the Civil Society. ATRC will also identify the citizens needs and include them in the municipal budget for the year 2011. Project will last until December 2010.

CHILDREN ON ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION

With the topic "Children on Environment Protection”, Advocacy Training and Resource Center -ATRC, held a cycle of lectures in several municipalities in Kosovo such are: Kosovo Polje, Dragash, Novobërda, Mitrovica, Leposavic, Podujeva and Gjilan. Lectures have been held with the pupils of the fifth grade of some primary schools from abovementioned municipalities.


These lectures have been presented by environmental local experts who focused mainly on the pollution of main nature components, pollution resources and opportunities that these pupils can contribute and prevent their environment. During these lectures, pupils expressed their concerns due to non adequate attention towards environment in society and their interests and opportunities to protect it.

Leart Tytyri, pupil from the fifth grade in Elementary School "ULINA" from Kosava village in Dragash Municipality, is concerned with the delay of snow in his village. Although so new age, Leart has realized that the effects of global warming as a serious threat to the environment, have also affected his village. "Snow in my village has been delayed. Before global warming, snow fell much earlier in m village ".

The Leart’s peer, Blerta Ahmeti who follows the fifth grade in Primary School "ASDRENI" to Llabjan,  Municipality of Novo Brdo, is concerned for her cousin who lives in Obilic. “She gets sick very often due to the polluted environment in Obiliq, meantime I get sick very rarely because the air in my village is much clean than in Obiliqi” - says Blerta.

The next cycle of lectures for increasing children awareness towards environmental protection, will continue in the other twenty-three municipalities, in the next semester (2010), which is supported by the American Embassy in Pristina.

BELLS MOVEMENT IN OFFICIAL MEETING WITH PRESIDENT OF THE
ASSEMBLY OF KOSOVO

Representatives of the Ambassadors of the Environment Network for Kosovo, namely the Regional Environmental Movement Bells Adriana Kabashi - chairman of the Board, Afrim Berisha - spokesman of the Board and Kushtrim Kaloshi - project coordinator for Kosovo RAE, held official meeting with the Chairman of the Assembly of Kosovo, Mr. Jakup Krasniqi.The purpose of the meeting was information for the regional Bells Movement objectives, requirements for initiation of action plans in the environmental field, the issue of resuming the construction of the Administrative Protocol Center in Germia etc.

Representatives of the Movement Bells asked from the President of the Assembly:
1. that in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment to accelerate the drafting of the Action Plan for climate change

2. to request from the Parliamentary Committee of the Agriculture and Environment to organize public hearings with the participation of experts and civil society,

3. to cooperate with the Assemblies of the states in the region with the aim to create joint plans of action for  environmental issues

4. to organize open debates with citizens before the start of capital investment in relation to influences that may have such investments in environment

5. to initiate the formation of an informal parliamentary group, which can be called: Green Lobby Group

6. to initiate debates in parliament about the environmental situation in Kosovo

7. not to proceed with further investment in and around the building of "Protocol Center" in Germia, before a special commission to make an assessment of its legality and then in accordance with the evaluation to continue with further procedures.

At the end of the meeting, the chairman of the Assembly representatives of the Movement Bells assured that he personally and the Kosovo Assembly will make efforts that during 2010 the issues raised by the Movement BEELLS to find solution in accordance with the possibilities and competences that the Assembly of Kosovo has.

PRESS CONFERENCE

On February 10, 2009 ATRC in cooperation with the Municipal Assembly of Prishtina organized press Conference with the purpose of informing the public about the process of public discussions organized in 36 Local Communities of Prishtina and incorporating the recommendations and priorities in the municipal budget 2009-2010.
