KOSOVO CITIZENS ASK FOR TRANSPARENCY AND RESPONSIBILITY FROM LOCAL GOVERNMENT
Citizens from different parts of Kosovo had the opportunity to face their presidents and challenge them with constructive questions, about public given promises on election debates “Jeta ne Kosove” during campaign election 2007.
In 20 public debates, “Jeta ne Komuna”, organized by ATRC, BIRN and GAP, held during period of September until December, around 10.520 participants from Kaçaniku, Vitia, Podujeva, Obiliqi, Deçani, Peja, Ferizaj, Gjilani, Novobërda,Kamenica, Dragashi, Suhareka, Prizreni, Gjakova, Fushë Kosova, Drenasi, Mitrovica, Vushtrria, Istogu and Klina.
These debates had contributed in increasing the transparency and accountability of local government, and elected municipal leaders. This project had impact also in creating institutional self consciousness for given promises, and obligation that elected leaders have towards citizens. The project will continue with debates in the municipality of Lipjanit, Shtimes, Rahovecit, Malishevës, Prishtinës, Shtërpcës, and Skenderaj. The debates are available to watch also throgh web site:
